Why the word "Embed" is being used?

We can use word "add" instead of "embed" when talking of Flash in a web browser. Web browser may be any of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mac's Safari, Opera and/or FireFox. So, this article actually demonstrates you how to add / embed Flash contents in your webpage. This article applies to all of above mentioned web browsers and other modern web browsers not listed here.

Now, you have a SWF (pronounced swiff) file that contains some animation, or is result of a video file that you converted to SWF, or a simple web application; and you wish your SWF be added to your webpage and play the same way (for poeple who browser you site) as on your own computer.

Procedure

Basically there are 2 two ways of adding Flash SWF to web page. What actually you need is, a small piece of HTML or Javascript code that you will add to your existing page, or simply save it as new html page (e.g. myvideo.html) and upload it, alongwith SWF file that html page has to embed in and play.

Before reading the following procedure, it is time you upload your SWF file through some FTP program, if you already have uploaded well and good.
Suppose the uploaded SWF link/url is http://www.yoursite.com/some_folder/some_file.swf


1. Microsoft Windows users

Please download this free tool called Embedder by clicking here
Then run it and supply it your SWF url in first text box, adjust width and height by entering numaric values in the next fields, then select quality and click button entitled "Create the code.....". It will create some HTML code that can directly be pasted into your webpage. Additionally you can create both kind of codes, either HTML or Javascript. Advantage of javascript code is that it is small as well as does not let the Internet Explorer draw a border around embedded control as it does with all other controls, such as Java applet / Quicktime control, Windows Media player control.

NOTE: This exe file has been tested with AVG and Norton antivirus program, so there must not be a doubt of file being viral at all. Besides C++ sourcecode of this application can be download here, if the user wishes to compile him/herself.

1. Linux users

Please run the above mentioned tool using wine, this tool is built on pure windows API without any dependencies, so, it must work just fine.
